Bertrand Collomb (1942-2019)
Dr. Collomb was a Director and Honorary Chairman of Lafarge, the world-wide leader in building materials. He began his career working for the French government and joined Lafarge in 1975.
He was appointed Chairman and CEO of Lafarge in 1989. Dr. Collomb founded the Centre for Management Research at the Ecole Polytechnique. He was a Director of Total, ATCO and DuPont and also played an active role in several institutions. He was a Trustee of the International Accounting Standards Foundation (I.A.S.F.), a Chairman of the French Institute of International Relations (I.F.R.I.) and of the Institut des Hautes Etudes for Science and Technology. He was Chairman of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (W.B.C.S.D.) in 2004. He was a member of the Institut de France (Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques). His career included nonexecutive directorships on the boards of Vivendi, Allianz, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Credit Commercial de France and Elf Aquitaine. He was a former Vice- Chairman of Unilever.
A graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole des Mines in Paris, he also held a French law degree and a PhD in Management from the University of Texas.
